What is Wi-Fi calling?

Wi-Fi Calling  allows you to make and receive voice calls or texts over a wireless internet connection such as your home broadband, office broadband or public Wi-Fi such as in coffee shops, train stations and airports rather than the traditional voice calls over mobile phone masts. This will help you to make voice calls in areas with low network coverage or no mobile signal by connecting to the network.

How does Wi-Fi calling work?

When Wi-Fi calling is enabled on your mobile phone and you make a call your carrier routes the call over an available Wi-Fi network instead of its mobile network. When you call, your phone will automatically select the best network, signal wise, at that point in time, Mobile or Wi-Fi, you do not need to do anything. The additional benefit here is if you make a call in your home, office or a coffee shop through Wi-Fi calling and leave the building your phone will automatically switch over to the mobile network to continue your call.

Is Wi-Fi calling free?

No. Wi-Fi calls come out of your regular mobile allowance, on Pay as You Go you are charged at your normal rate. Using Wi-Fi calling is a fantastic option for employees that work as they commute, or they travel a lot, as there are never sky-high international calling rates for making cross-border calls. You are simply using data from your mobile allowance to make international long-distance calls.

Do all networks offer Wi-Fi calling?

No, not all networks currently offer the WIFI-calling option. All of the bigger networks do, but check availability to see if your current mobile has the capabilities.
