Origin broadband is a budget provider, who is relatively unknown compared to the big provider names. Its packages boast affordability and simplicity. Let’s investigate if Origin is too good to be true or if they can follow through with their excellent offers to broadband consumers.

What does Origin offer?

Origin offers cheap broadband, with no set-up costs and plans like the ‘Supersaver’ which gives you a 30% on your package when you pay for it all up front. No more worrying about those monthly bills piling up!

Origin also stacks up with its ADSL and fibre speeds. Let’s have a look at some tables to see exactly what Origin offers.

Speed

Origin keeps it simple with three broadband deals (standard ADSL broadband and fibre optic broadbands):

  1. Origin Broadband: This is their basic package meant for browsing the web, watching your films and videos and keeping in touch on a couple of devices. Average speeds of 11Mbps and a contract length of 18 months. Hub included for easy set up. For £19.99 a month, this is pretty good!
  2. Origin Superfast: For those who want a bit more but don’t need the whole shebang. For £23.99 a month, you get average speeds of 36 Mbps, unlimited fibre and the hub. 18 month contract duration.
  3. Origin Max Fibre: The top tier package, offering incredible speeds of 67 Mbps for £27.99 a month, for 18 months. This is the fastest speed your lines can support, and will comfortably support a large family.

Origin broadband online reviews

Refreshingly, Origin Broadband has good reviews on Trustpilot. It has a four star rating out of five. Many of the reviews listed mention the competent and helpful customer service agents who facilitate the resolution of issues. This bodes well for Origin as a relatively unknown or smaller broadband company.

How does Origin compare to its competitors?

In terms of speed, Origin stands up well to BT, TalkTalk and Sky but Virgin Media is the winner in terms of the choice of speeds available.

Origin average speeds vs BT, Sky, TalkTalk and Virgin Media

Fibre download speed 18Mb / 36Mb / 67Mb 36Mb / 50Mb / 67Mb 59Mb 36Mb / 63Mb 54Mb / 108Mb / 213Mb / 362Mb / 516Mb
Fibre download speed 9.5Mb / 19.5Mb 9.5Mb / 19.5Mb 19Mb 9.5Mb / 19Mb 5Mb / 10Mb / 20Mb / 36Mb

However, unlike other providers, Origin also has the option of a cheap entry-level fibre package with an average speed of 18Mb for around the same price (and often less) than other ISPs charge for a slower ADSL service.

In terms of value for money, Origin scores the award for cheapest package, which reinforces its image as a budget provider.
