Sky TV not Working: What to do

Before you throw up your hands in despair and throw out your complete Sky box system, consider the following suggestions for resolving some frequent Sky box issues.

You may do a few basic tests to figure out what’s causing the issue. You need to follow some simple techniques before trying the main fixing steps.

  1. Unplug all the cables
  2. Plug back in after 2 minutes
  3. Check your Sky Tv to see if the issue persists.

If this simple technique doesn’t work for you, follow the solutions mentioned below.

Perform a simple Reboot

You may restart your Skybox by pressing the power button. To resolve the problem, take the following steps:

  1. Disconnect the SkyBox from the power supply and repeat for other connected devices (including your internet router).
  2. Check if your box's lights have gone out; this indicates that the box isn't receiving electricity.
  3. Allow a few minutes for the box to cool before reconnecting it to the mains. If the reboot is successful, the light on your Sky Box will turn green, and the Sky Welcome channel will appear on the screen.

Update the software on your Sky TV box

If resetting the Skybox does not work, you can try updating the firmware by following these steps:

  1. To switch off the box, push the standby button on your remote.
  2. After turning off the box, push and hold the button to switch it back on.
  3. Hold the backup button when switching back on at the mains.
  4. Hold the backup button for up to 30 seconds, or until all four lights show in front of the panel, and then release.

Your box should now be in download mode, which might take 5 to 10 minutes. Please do not switch off or try to watch TV while your box is in download mode. When you switch on your television, you may see an on-screen message that says "Updating System Software."

After the download is finished, the Skybox will go into standby mode. Allow three minutes. Then, hit ‘sky’ on your remote to return to your box.

Check your Sky Remote

If the signal strength is insufficient, the batteries in your Sky remote may need to be changed. If you've reset the box but are still experiencing problems, the issue might be with your remote.

Check the Weather

If your Sky TV isn't working due to inclement weather, the satellite signal on your TV is being disrupted by wind, rain, or other reasons. Allow the harsh weather to pass. Meanwhile, you may view your favourite episodes on Sky Go or on-demand, as well as any recordings stored in your Planner.

Sky TV not working and displaying a blue screen.

When your Sky TV is not working and displaying a blue screen, this warning indicates that your Sky TV is connected to your Wi-Fi but not to the internet. DNS fluctuations frequently cause it.

To correct this mistake, follow these steps:

  1. Reboot your router and Sky TV equipment to determine whether the problem has been repaired.
  2. If the problem persists, it is possible that your Sky TV is only partially connected to the internet.
  3. Reconnect to your internet connection from the settings menu.
  4. Connect to another internet connection or use your mobile data to ensure there are no other problems with your Sky TV.

Sky TV not working after a storm.

If your Sky TV isn't working due to a storm or severe weather, wind, rain, or other weather conditions interfere with your TV's satellite signal. Wait for the storm to pass. Meanwhile, you may watch your favourite episodes on Sky Go, on-demand, or any recordings you've saved to your Planner.
