Origin Broadband are an up- and- coming broadband provider based in Yorkshire. What do they offer and is there good deals for new customers?

Is Origin Broadband any good?

Origin broadband prides itself on being UK based- their team is located onsite in Yorkshire. Origin doesn't have as many extras as other providers, but if price and customer service are your main priorities, then Origin broadband might just be your ideal provider!

How fast is the Origin Broadband Fibre?

Origin broadband offers three different speeds – one ADSL and two fibre packages. The three speeds are standard for broadband packages and measure up to be more or less the same as those offered by most broadband providers.

Origin's cheapest plan is an ADSL line with average download speeds of 11Mbps and average upload speeds of 1Mbps. This sounds pretty weak, but it is plenty to support a small household of two or three casual users. It is fast enough to stream Netflix and to do most everyday things online.

Origin Superfast is Origin's entry-level fibre broadband plan. It offers average download speeds of 36Mbps and upload speeds of 9Mbps. If there are a few people in your household who all like to be online at the same time, and do more heavy lifting internet use, then fibre is what you need. Use Origin's coverage checker to see if you can get fibre in your area!

Origin Max Fibre gives you even faster speeds – 67Mbps download and 17Mbps upload. This should be enough bandwidth to keep you going even with quite a few of you using the internet or streaming at the same time everyday.

All of Origin's broadband deals come with 18-month contracts, but aside from a free router, they nothing in terms of add-ons or extras. Unique to other providers, Origin also offers pay upfront deals in addition to pay monthly deals.

Coverage

Origin uses the Openreach telephone network, and like the majority of other providers, it offers fast fibre optic broadband deals with an average speed of 36Mb or 67Mb.

The speed of your service will depend on your phone line and distance from the exchange. You can quickly get an idea of what type of broadband is available by entering your postcode into the postcode checker on Origin Broadband's website. Packages will be filtered by location so you'll only see deals applicable to your area. When signing up for Origin you will be given an accurate speed estimate by the agent so you'll have a clear idea of what kind of performance to expect.
