How to cancel EE contract
All good things must come to an end. Maybe you have found a better deal, or you are syncing your provider across all your devices and home broadband. Whatever the reason, let’s look at how you can cancel your EE contract, whether that be a phone or broadband contract.
EE's unlimited broadband is provided over the BT network, which means that it's widely available to households across the UK. They offer deals that combine mobile perks and even a TV service.
EE has five broadband packages - ranging from standard broadband to ultrafast fibre. Other important factors when researching broadband packages are reliability of their speeds and customer service quality.
What do I need to do before I cancel?
Before you decide to finalise your contract cancellation, it’s essential to review its terms. This will give you a better sense of when you can expect your contract to finish and any early termination fees you might incur - if any.
Unless you want to be stuck without broadband in the time gap between the cancellation of your current deal and the beginning of your new one, you will need to pick a new deal and schedule it to begin on an appropriate day.
What if my contract is ending anyway?
Good news! You can cancel EE for free if your minimum term is finished.
The easiest option is to simply switch to a new provider on the same Openreach (BT line) network used by EE. Then the new provider will handle the cancellation for you.
If you are not switching, or you are moving to a provider on a different network, you need to call EE on 0800 079 0544. EE does request a minimum of 30 days’ notice to cancel, so it is good to keep this in mind. All EE contact details can be found on the EE customer service and complaints page.
What if I am still within my contract dates?
If you’re still in your minimum term, you’ll need to follow the same steps above, but it will cost you a bit more due to cancellation fees. EE charges an early termination charge - called a Remaining Contract Charge - if you haven’t reached your minimum term. This charge is calculated through the inclusion of your monthly charges, unused discounts you may have, VAT, or a 4% discount for early receipt of payment.
How long are EE contracts?
EE offers both 12-month and 18-month contracts for its broadband packages. All EE contracts have a minimum contract term; if you haven’t hit your minimum term yet, you’ll most likely face additional charges for early termination. If you’ve already hit the minimum term, you’re likely in the clear for additional fees, but you still need to be aware of the timeframes for notifying EE of cancelling, and for returning equipment.
How can I find out my contract end date?
You can ring EE to find out your contract end date. Dial 150 on an EE mobile. EE landline subscribers can use the freephone option: 0800 079 8586.
If you're calling from a different provider, call 0207 362 0200, and when calling from abroad use the same number with the UK international code: +44 (0) 207 362 0200.
EE customer service opening hours are 8:00 am to 9:00 pm, Monday to Friday, and 8:00 am to 8:00 pm on weekends.
